Dr. Bies believes so strongly in the importance of international travel that he established a travel endowment for doctoral students of the University. The Graduate Student International Fellowship endowment, created in 2003, provides financial support for doctoral students traveling to international professional meetings (e.g., annual conferences of professional societies) or defrays international travel expenses associated with dissertation research.
 
MU DISTINGUISHED DISSERTATION AWARD
Brian Kaylor, Communication
The recipient of the Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Award will receive a $500 honorarium.
 
MU DISTINGUISHED THESIS AWARD
Ibrahim Almosallam, Computer Science
The recipient of the Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award will receive a $500 honorarium.
 
GI/TA AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

This award recognizes excellence in the efforts of graduate instructors and teaching assistants who use educational technologies to meaningfully improve teaching and learning at MU.
 
NANCY AND BILL LAURIE
SCHOLARSHIP FOR GRADUATE STUDIES
Kristina Rowe, Social Work
The Nancy and Bill Laurie Scholarship for Graduate Students is made possible by a generous contribution by the Laurie family and awarded annually to a graduate student with financial need who is a graduate from a Missouri high school and who has achieved high academic excellence. The scholarship is for $2,000, and is renewable for a second year. Indeed, thanks to the Lauries' generosity, next year's award will be for $2,500.
 
SUPERIOR GRADUATE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Candidates for the Superior Graduate Achievement Award are selected based on demonstrated excellence in teaching, research and service, from a pool of peer-nominated outstanding students in each graduate department on campus.
 
CHANCELLOR'S DISSERTATION COMPLETION FELLOWSHIP
Andrew Moon, Philosophy
The Chancellor’s Dissertation Completion Fellowship is awarded to an MU outstanding doctoral student. This one-year fellowship recognizes exemplary research and scholarship, and the student’s potential to contribute to his/her field with the proposed dissertation. The $20,000 fellowship, fee waiver and full insurance subsidy are provided through the generosity of Chancellor Deaton and the Chancellor’s Fund for Excellence.
 
OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION
TO GRADUATE EDUCATION AWARD
Department of Psychological Sciences
The MU Outstanding Departmental Contribution to Graduate Education Award recognizes both well-established and highly innovative contributions that departments or interdepartmental units make to enhance the quality of MU graduate programs and to the successful careers of their graduate alumni. Made possible through the support of the Office of the Provost, the award provides the winning department with $30,000 ($10,000 a year for three years) to recognize and support efforts to further enhance the quality of graduate education.
 
MU GRADUATE FACULTY MENTOR AWARD

Sandra Abell, Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum
The purpose of the MU Graduate Faculty Mentor Award is to recognize the mentoring relationship a graduate faculty adviser has developed with his or her graduate students. A $1,500 honorarium is provided to each of the graduate faculty members selected for this award.
