The MU Geotechnical Program is one of the best in the country, with experienced faculty and updated laboratories. They have projects that I have been interested in a long time.

In 2006, my husband had chance to see Dr. John J. Bowders leading the MU Geotechnical Engineering team for the  American Society of Civil Engineers’ retaining wall–building competition in Denver. He was very impressed with the way the team performed and communicated. That year, the team took the National Championships for the second time. My husband suggested that I get to know them and apply to MU.

I am now feeling so excited to be a MU student. The more I know about MU, the more I like it. MU has a high national ranking with diverse study in more than 90 graduate programs. The cost of living in Columbia is not very expensive. MU cares about international students with many wonderful programs for us.

Dr. Bowders now is my advisor, and he indeed is a very professional and compassionate professor.

Thuy Vu was awarded Second Prize in the Vietnam National Mechanics Olympic Competition. She has also garnered other awards and honors. Upon completion of her PhD, she intends to become a faculty member.
