Graduate Faculty Mentor Award
The purpose of the MU Graduate Faculty Mentor Award is to recognize the mentoring relationship a graduate faculty adviser has developed with his or her graduate students. A $3,000 honorarium is provided to the graduate faculty member selected for this award. Full-time (including 9 months), active, current faculty on the MU campus are eligible for this award. Nominators should consult with graduate students in the department or program before determining which faculty mentor to put forward. Prior recipients of this award are not eligible.
Deadline for nominations: January 30, 2009
Nomination packets should be submitted electronically by the deadline, on disk or flash drive. Nominations should include, in commonly used electronic formats (.doc, .pdf, .jpg, .tiff, .bmp) the following documents:
- A completed nomination form as the cover sheet that can be printed, signed and scanned
- A nominating letter that is no longer than three typed pages. This may be from a director of graduate studies, department chair or college/school dean.
- Minimum of three/maximum of six letters of support written by former and/or current advisees
- No more than three letters from other MU graduate faculty colleagues
- A 1–2 page statement from the nominee on his/her philosophy of working with and mentoring graduate students
- A list of supervised theses and dissertations
The award recipient will be selected by the Graduate Faculty Senate Awards Committee on the basis of the following criteria:
- Quality of the philosophy of working with and mentoring graduate students
- Quality of mentoring as perceived by former and current advisees
- Quality of mentoring as perceived by graduate faculty colleagues
- Productivity of the nominee’s career as a mentor
