Doctoral and Graduate Faculty

Graduate Faculty Membership

Graduate Faculty membership is required to teach graduate-level courses (University of Missouri Graduate Faculty and Board of Curators 1921), chair master’s thesis committees, and to vote on graduate education issues brought to the faculty by the Graduate Faculty Senate. In addition, depending on the committee composition, Graduate Faculty may also serve as a member on doctoral examination and dissertation committees. Graduate students do not qualify for Graduate Faculty membership.

Graduate Faculty membership is department independent and does not expire.

Graduate faculty membership is a prerequisite for Doctoral faculty membership.

Doctoral Faculty Membership

Doctoral Faculty membership is required to chair doctoral examination or dissertation committees.

Doctoral Faculty membership is department dependent and must be renewed every five years.

Doctoral Faculty nominations originate in individual departments/units. Check with your chair/director about the department/unit-specific criteria and procedures.

Doctoral Faculty Criteria

New or updated Doctoral Faculty Criteria must be reviewed by the Graduate Faculty Senate and approved by the Dean of the Graduate School.
