Requirements for the Minor in College Teaching
Eligibility
The official graduate minor is available to all master's and doctoral students at the University of Missouri.
Plan of Study
The Minor in College Teaching (MICT) requires 9 credit hours beyond the major plan of study. This includes a 3-hour core course, a practicum and 3- 6 elective* hours. Core course options, practicum guidelines and elective course options are listed below.
*Notes on elective hours:
- See Guidelines for the Practicum for more information. Students must complete a teaching practicum, and they may wish to do so through a graduate course, if offered by their department. Enrollment in practicum credit hours will be reflected on one's official MU transcript.
- Examples of 6 elective credit hours include enrollment and successful completion of
- A 3 hour credit practicum plus 3 hours of approved elective course work or
- 6 credit hours of approved elective course work.
- The 6 hour requirement is a minimum; students may complete additional elective hours if desired.
It is highly recommended that students enroll in The Professoriate (Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis 9456), but it not a requirement.
Be sure to learn about the application procedure prior to enrolling in your course work.
STUDENTS MUST submit a program completion form (PDF), along with the teaching portfolio, to the MICT program in the Graduate School, 210 Jesse Hall.
Will I Still Graduate On Time?
For many students, the 9 hours required for the MICT can be completed during summer semesters. Others pursue the MICT after completing comprehensive examinations when classified as a “continuously enrolled” student.
