Registering for Oral Language Assessment Tests

Academic program representatives are responsible for registering students for both the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) and the Oral Presentation Test (OPT). Please review Oral Language Assessments to determine which test is most appropriate for your TA candidates.

Academic programs should contact Janet Bradshaw with the student's name and student number to register candidates for the appropriate test. Graduate students should contact their academic program/department to arrange the correct assessment. Dates for assessments can be found on our calendar.

OPT Reminders

Please use the Oral Presentation Form (.doc) to inform students of their OPT topic 5 days or less from the testing date. Also, make sure they bring a completed Personal Data Sheet (.doc) and a Video Release form.

SPEAK Reminders

Please make sure students complete the SPEAK Registration form and the Personal Data Sheet (.doc) and bring it with them to the assessment.

The SPEAK test is given at Rock Bridge High School. Plan to arrive arrive 15 minutes before the test begins.

Directions to Rock Bridge High School

Take Providence Road south. Continue on Providence Road, passing Stadium Boulevard, Green Meadows, and Nifong Boulevard. After going through the light at Nifong Boulevard, turn right at the next light, which is Southampton Drive. Take a right onto Southampton Drive and then an immediate right into Rock Bridge High School. Drive to the north end of the school and you may park anywhere in the parking lot at the north end of the school. There will be signs posted on the north door of the school that will ask you to wait in the entrance area until someone from ITAP comes to get you. It is important that you wait in this entrance area. You may not wander around the school.

Bus Information to Rock Bridge High School

You may also take a Columbia Transit bus to Rock Bridge High School. To do this, you need to go to the corner of Providence Road and Stadium Blvd. The buses leave this point at 10:10, and 11:30 am, and 12:50, 2:10, 2:50, 3:30, and 4:10 pm. Take the Orange Bus South to Rock Bridge High School (the bus is not actually orange - it says "orange" on the front). The busses leave Rock Bridge at 12:55, 2:15, 2:55, 3:35, 4:15, 4:55, and 5:35 pm from Monday through Wednesday. On Thursdays and Fridays, there are later busses leaving Rock Bridge at 6:15, 7:35, and 8:55 pm. The bus ride is 50 cents each way, and only ten minutes long. View the bus schedule.
