The Graduate School at the University of Missouri–Columbia (Mizzou)

2012 Fall Preview Weekend: October 17-20

As a vital component of its mission, the Graduate School at the University of Missouri (MU) works to increase the representation of the underserved and underrepresented segments of the population in graduate study.

We invite prospective graduate students from underrepresented populations (African-American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, or Hispanic/Latino) and/or first-generation college students [custodial parent(s) has not received a four-year bachelor's degree] who have a serious interest in attending MU for graduate study to apply for a spot in the Graduate School's Emerge Fall Preview Weekend.

Who Are We Looking For?

  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents attending a U.S. college or university outside of the University of Missouri in Columbia
  • Members of racial or ethnic groups that are underrepresented in graduate education (African-American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, or Hispanic/Latino ) and/or first-generation college students [custodial parent(s) has not received a four-year bachelor's degree]
  • Within one to two years of entering graduate school (typically a junior or senior during the fall of your visit)
  • Genuine interest in research and in earning a doctoral degree
  • Strong academic record
  • Interest in one of MU's official graduate degree programs

Space for the weekend event is limited, so the Graduate School particularly seeks to invite students who will contribute to Emerge, and eventually the university community, through their informed perspective and dedication to scholarship.

Expenses covered by the program include: Airfare (or mileage reimbursement for those students driving to campus), lodging, meals and all scheduled social activities. The Graduate School will not cover the following expenses: baggage fees, cost for any changes/ additions to airfare after the initial ticket is secured or any additional costs resulting from missed flights, shuttles, etc. (e.g. car rental expense).

All application materials must be received by 5 p.m. (CST) on Friday, September 28, 2012.
