  • Those within one to two years of entering graduate school (typically a junior or senior during the fall after the internship)
  • Students with a genuine interest in research and in earning a doctoral degree in science, technology, engineering, math, humanities or a social science

Space for the program is limited, so the Graduate School particularly seeks to invite students who will contribute to Emerge through their informed perspective and dedication to scholarship.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will I be notified of my acceptance or made an offer for an internship?

Tentatively, we are aiming to extend our invitations of internship offers as early as mid-March and as late as mid-April. This review process, depending on your field of study and specific research interests, can be fairly quick for some (STEM sciences) and a little slower for others (social sciences).

At this time, we have yet to determine how many internship offers will be extended for occupancy because of the number of impressive applications we receive for review.

How will you contact me if I am selected?

We will notify all applicants of their status via e-mail or, if necessary, by postal mail. We encourage you to use your university e-mail account if at all possible.

Can I directly contact a faculty member and ask her/him to be my mentor for this program?

Yes. We encourage all applicants to research and correspond, through Mizzou academic program Web sites, with faculty who share your research area of interest.

If I am not selected this year can I reapply?

Yes. We encourage all applicants to reapply as often as they wish.
