Travel
The MU Graduate School will arrange and pay for your transportation to and from Columbia.
Drivers
Missourians should drive or arrange for a ride to Columbia unless they do not wish to keep a car for the summer and/or can be in St. Louis for the group transport on the first day of the program.
- Interns who will keep their cars for the summer must request a parking application before arriving on campus. Contact the MU Summer Research Program office in advance for an application. Parking permits should be picked up from Parking Services the second day of the program.
- You should plan to arrive in Columbia no later 3 p.m. on the first day in order to check into your room before dinner. If you don’t have time to move in before dinner, you can move in later that night. Beware that on Sunday afternoons, an accident on I-70 can stall traffic for an hour. Please drive carefully and give yourself plenty of time.
- Drivers will be reimbursed for the mileage (not gas) to and from Mizzou on the last day of the program.
Non-fliers Without Cars: Group Van Transport from St. Louis
If you can be in St. Louis on the first day of the program and are in need of transportation to Columbia, you have the option of riding the van transporting those who are flying. You will have to secure a ride to the Lambert Airport in St. Louis, and will need to be at the airport by 1 p.m. We will meet in M1 of the baggage claim area.
This bus will also transport you back to the airport on the last day of the program. See “Ground Transportation From the Airport” below for more info.
Flight Information
Our office will contact those who are flying via e-mail or, if necessary, by telephone. All your flight information and itineraries will be e-mailed to you if at all possible (postal mail is a last resort).
You will need a photo ID to check-in at the airport. Please allow about two hours check-in time to allow for enhanced security procedures.
Ground Transportation From the Airport
A University of Missouri van will provide ground transportation from Lambert Airport in St. Louis to Columbia. This van will arrive at the airport at approximately noon and will depart for Columbia at 2:15 p.m. The drive to Columbia takes two hours, so be sure to eat breakfast and lunch.
You will arrive from your flight into the main terminal of Lambert Airport. Please follow signs directing you to the baggage claim area of the main terminal. After you gather your luggage, follow the signs to area M1 (this is still in the baggage claim area of the main terminal). A Mizzou representative or the University van driver will meet interns at the M1 area.
Meeting Others
You may arrive a few hours before the bus does, so be sure to take this time as an opportunity to meet other interns you will be spending the summer with at MU. Be sure to pack a book, playing cards, etc., to be ready for your time in the airport.
Housing & Meals
The Graduate School will pay for your housing and meal plan during the internship. You will share a double room with another person in our program as is available. The following link provides information and pictures of the residential hall where you will live:
*If you choose to reside off-campus, we will not compensate you for your housing costs. However, we will provide you with a meal plan.
