In this session we’ll discuss some of my prior research examining English learners in the mathematics classroom in order to uncover the why and how of drawing on students’ cultural and linguistic resources. We’ll also consider some cultural and historical ways of doing mathematics to see how drawing on these perspectives can enrich the mathematics classroom for everyone.
