Research Discussion with Dr. Francisco Sanchez: The Role of Psychological Science in Promoting the Civil Rights and Well-being of Sexual and Gender Minorities
Townsend Hall - 220
Brown v. Board of Education (1954) is seen as the landmark federal case in which psychological science played a critical role in advancing the public interest. Since then, the American Psychological Association (APA) has worked with expert psychologists in submitting over 200 Amicus Briefs for court cases; and APA’s briefs are often cited by state and federal courts when releasing their decisions. Dr. Sánchez will discuss his role in currently serving as one of three national experts working with the APA Office of General Counsel on federal cases addressing the rights of transgender and gender nonconforming people (including workplace discrimination and “bathroom bills”).
