Dr. Muhammad Muinul Islam is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics & Medical Epidemiology at the MU School of Medicine. He holds a M.S. in Public Administration from Georgia State University, earned on a Fulbright scholarship in 2010, and a Ph.D. in Public Affairs from the Truman School of Government and Public Affairs at MU, completed in 2020. Dr. Islam’s research utilizes large-scale electronic health record (EHR) data to investigate the impact of multimorbidity on cognitive decline and the effects of climate change on population health. His work focuses on comorbidities such as viral infections, sleep disturbances, and chronic pain, and their implications for cognitive impairment and public health. He has contributed to several funded projects, including Missouri’s immunization data quality ‘ShowMeVax’ project, the RECOVER Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC) EHR Cohort Study, and the development of a REDCap tool for the ‘Missouri HIV Testing Database.’ His previous research has examined governance innovations, and the effectiveness of public programs supported by organizations including the World Bank and UNDP. Currently, Dr. Islam serves as the Secretary of the Climate, Health, and Informatics Working Group for the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). Outside his professional endeavors, he enjoys traveling, reading non-fiction on history, religion, and science, and exploring lunar and Martian missions, all while valuing time with his family.
