Civil engineering education at MU began in 1856 with the establishment of the first Chair of Civil Engineering. Graduate programs offered by the department prepare students for leadership positions in academia, research and advanced practice engineering careers. Major program areas include structural mechanics, structural engineering and materials, geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering, environmental engineering, hydrology and water resources engineering and transportation engineering.

Current MU undergraduate students are eligible to apply to this program. To be considered for admission to the accelerated MS program in Civil Engineering, a student must:
- Have completed at least 90 credit hours towards a bachelor’s degree.
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or above in their introductory courses of the selected area of emphasis (CE 3200 Fundamentals of Environmental Engineering or CE 3702 Hydrology for environmental/water resources, CE 3400 Fundamental of Geotechnical Engineering for geotechnical, CE 3300 Structural Analysis I for structures and CE 3100 Fundamental of Transportation Engineering for transportation).

Certificate description: The primary objective of the Graduate Certificate in Construction Management is to position students and professionals to succeed in the construction industry. The construction industry builds the basic infrastructure necessary to sustain modern cities and communities. Examples of such infrastructure include highways, bridges, hospitals, powerlines, and water treatment plants. The successful delivery of such infrastructure requires skillful project managers to navigate the various steps of the project delivery process. Certificate holders will acquire experience in various aspects of CM such as planning, environmental compliance, design, right-of-way acquisition, estimation, resource management, financing, and scheduling.
