New Graduate Student Orientation Programs  Fall 2021

New Graduate Student Orientation and Welcome for All New Graduate Students:

The  Graduate School’s new student orientation for the Fall 2021 semester Is now being held virtually.  Dr. Jeni Hart, Dean of the Graduate School, will welcome you to graduate study at MU, introduce you to the ways in which the Graduate School can assist you as you pursue a graduate degree or certificate at MU, and provide important campus updates.  We will also be joined by Dr. Stephanie Shonekan, Senior Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Science and University of Missouri Provost, Dr. Latha Ramchand, and others. A zoom link will be sent to registrants approximately 48 hours before the event.  View this event here: New Graduate Student Orientation

Breakout Sessions

Graduate Student Panel Discussion

Join us online for a panel discussion.  Current MU graduate students, working toward a variety of degrees both on campus and online, will have helpful advice for making the most of your time as a graduate student at MU.  We will be discussing important topics such as effective communication with your advisor and colleagues, work-life balance, building connections on campus and online, and more.  We will also have time for your questions!  A zoom link will be sent to registrants approximately 48 hours before the event.  View the event here: Student Panel Discussion

Grad Welcome Groups: In addition to orientation activities, we encourage you to consider participating in a Grad Welcome Group.  Groups meet weekly in person or online  during the first six weeks of the fall semester with loosely structured agendas to help new graduate students navigate the graduate student experience.  This is an excellent way to form connections with other students and allows open dialogue and advice on tops ranging from communicating with your advisor to parking! You will have the opportunity to opt-in to participating when informing us of your attendance plans on the orientation registration form.

Students on campus or those coming to campus: Our office in 210 Jesse Hall is open to serve students from 8 am-5pm Monday through Friday.  We ask for your patience as we limit the number of visitors we can safely accommodate at one time in order to maintain social distancing.  We will have some small give away items (post-it notes, face masks, bags, cups, etc.) from the Graduate School and our student health insurance provider available outside of our office while supplies last!

All orientation events will follow current COVID-19 guidance. Check out the Show Me Renewal site for more details.
