Dr. Skylar King is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Surgery at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Dr. Shi-You Chen’s Cardiovascular Biology research lab. She earned her B.A. in Biology at the University of North Texas (UNT) in December 2014 and her Ph.D. in Biology with a focus in Genetics and Cell Biology under the supervision of Dr. Pamela Padilla at UNT in August 2019. Her current interests include the role of surfactant protein A (SPA) in smooth muscle cell phenotype regulation and its role in cardiovascular diseases. Dr. King plans to continue her career in academia by obtaining her own independent research lab with a research focus in translational cardiovascular biology and teaching and mentoring students at the university level. Other than her passion for scientific research and teaching, she is interested in the equality of women and minorities in science, expressing her creativity through art and spending time with her two children, two dogs and her family and friends.
