Automatic Graduate Status A for Certain Faculty
All newly hired faculty with terminal degrees, TT and NTT, in units that offer graduate programs, will automatically be granted Graduate Faculty Status A. Otherwise, applications must be submitted to the Graduate School for evaluation and approval.

Doctoral Faculty Mentor Training Policy
All newly hired assistant professors who will advise doctoral students at MU must complete University-provided mentor training in order to be eligible for doctoral faculty status. Academic units may establish further policy for mentor training requirements for remaining faculty.

Instruction of Graduate Students
Graduate instructors must possess a relevant academic degree and hold a degree at least one level above the level of instruction, except in programs for terminal degrees or when equivalent experience is established. Graduate Faculty Status is required to teach a graduate or cross-level course at the University of Missouri. Graduate students do not qualify for Graduate Faculty membership.

Student Responsibility to Know Academic Regulations
It is each graduate student’s responsibility to know and observe all regulations and procedures relating to the program the student is pursuing. In no case will a regulation be waived or an exception be granted because students plead ignorance of, or contend that they were not informed of, the regulations and procedures. Responsibility for following all policies and meeting all requirements and deadlines for graduate programs rests with the student.
